Description
Firefighter is the fire-response class. It starts with a Fire Extinguisher and extra inventory space, then rewards putting out fires with sanity and eventually removes fire-related sanity drain.
Use Firefighter on shifts with frequent room fires or when your team needs one player dedicated to emergency response without sacrificing inventory space.
Appearance
Firefighter is a grayish-blue elephant with predominantly pink ears and short tusks. They wear a black-and-blue hat and uniform with yellow stripes on the arms and torso, matching yellow stripes near the bottom of the pants, two knee pockets, and a small tail.
How to use Firefighter
Assign Firefighter to watch for room fires and keep the extinguisher ready while teammates handle check-in, treatment, and anomaly checks.
Build the rest of the setup around the class's actual lane. Check the Items guide for inventory priorities, use the shift guide to match the pick to upcoming pressure, and complete the anomaly checks before relying on any perk or special technique.
The only class with fire immunity
Firefighter starts with a Fire Extinguisher and +1 max inventory capacity, then gains sanity for putting out fires and, at level 3, immunity to sanity drain from fires. That last effect is unique in the roster: every other class has to manage room fires as a pure sanity cost.
It was added on July 25, 2026 in The Hazmat Team Arrives update and costs 1100 Animal Coins, with a listed starting sanity of 65%. The combination of an extinguisher, an extra slot and fire immunity makes it the most specialised answer on the class list.
A narrow class that is decisive when it applies
Firefighter does nothing for inventory beyond one slot, nothing for detection, and nothing for treatment speed. On a shift with no fires, it is close to a wasted pick. On a shift where rooms keep igniting, it is the difference between a stable run and a collapsing one, because it is the only class that can put out a fire without paying sanity for it.
That binary quality is why the class should be chosen per shift rather than as a permanent main. Read the shift type before committing the 1100 Animal Coins of value.
Running Firefighter in a team
The recorded team advice is to assign Firefighter to watch for room fires and keep the extinguisher ready while teammates handle check-in, treatment and anomaly checks. Treating it as a dedicated emergency responder is what makes the pick efficient, since the class has no other competing use.
Firefighter is also useful on Slime Shifts, where room fires and emergency cleanup create pressure — though it still depends on teammates to handle patients and anomaly checks, because the class contributes nothing to either.
